Soil Stewardship Group West : Overview

SSG West, a division of SSG Ontario, is a site-specific sampling and technical support company serving western Canada. We can offer support directly to growers or through leading edge dealers and consultants across western Canada.

We do not offer grid sampling services, but rather a complete field audit using site specific sampling. This in turn is used to assist growers and consultants in understanding the variations within a field.

We sample the fields based on what the field tells us. We can use yield maps, satellite images or just the growers knowledge of the field to create our sampling pattern. We do not use a computer to generate our sampling pattern. The key to the whole system are the maps generated with the sampling information. At least one of the maps will look like how the grower knows the field from his tractor seat. With this information growers can make better management decisions to enhance production or take action to correct problem areas.
